Tim Lizarraga

Tim Lizarraga in one word is a “WOW!” He is currently completely slaying the role of Mark Cohen in Lakeside Community Theatre’s RENT. Tim brings such an intensity to the part with his great voice and naturalistic acting, it took me a few minutes to shake off the realization that I was talking to a dynamic young actor and not Mark Cohen. I am beyond impressed with the skills of this young man and look forward to seeing what’s next from the wildly talented Tim Lizarraga. Take a few moments to learn more about Tim.

When was your first time on stage?

My first time on stage was as a child performing in The Wizard Of Oz as a munchkin/field mouse. I specifically remember how much I loved being on stage and being in “character”. When the adults would corral us up to begin our performance I recall having butterflies but I still went on with my fellow cast mates and did the job. I definitely got my confidence when I was surrounded by my fellow cast mates and always loved the camaraderie that we created as a team. I looked up to the leads very much and was always inspired by their talent, and I knew from them on that I wanted to be in more shows.

When did you know you wanted to be an actor?

I knew I wanted to be an actor after I saw the film, “Synecdoche, NY” in 2020. The pure artistry of the actors is what drew me further into the craft. To bring drama to life from a passionate writers vision is the ultimate satisfaction. I knew after viewing that film that I could do the same thing and enjoy it, as long as I work hard and continue on this path toward success.

Who is your greatest mentor?

My greatest mentor I have encountered has been my father. He has always been there for me and continues to support my goals and myself in any aspect he can. My family are also my best mentors because they give me unrelenting support. Michael Childs has also been a huge part of my mentorship in my career. Mr. Childs has taught me most of all of the current skills I hold today, and without his extreme passion and dedication to teaching musical theater I would not be where I am today.

What role have you enjoyed the most in your career so far?

The role I have enjoyed most in my career so far has been playing “Mark Cohen” from Rent. Rent is one of my favorite musicals of all time and a huge inspiration to my life as a whole. To be playing this role currently is nothing short of a dream come true. I am honored to be in this show.

Do you have a dream role?

My dream role is definitely Sweeney Todd. I think that his overall character is rare and it would be a great honor to play anything from Sondheim.

What person(s) would you like to be on stage with?

Without a doubt I would love to play alongside Adam Kantor in a musical. I think his style is unique and he has an amazing confidence that I think would be so fun to experience.

What performances have you seen that impressed you?

Anything Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been in is an impressive performance in my eyes. He was always locked in with every role he played, and he was very real in every take. I also rather enjoy watching Tim Roth perform for the same reasons.

What are your career goals?

My career goals are to continue to audition and book roles for musicals, take on commercial and film work and play in a punk band. I want to mix and master artists music and create live music events around DFW. Once I get experience with that, I want to start a program that encourages young artists to continue on their path toward acting, by making a fund to support them financially through their careers as they start out. Giving back to the community is the ultimate goal!

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

People would be surprised to know that I was the front man (singer/screamer?) in a heavy death metal band. I have performed many shows on stages and had the amazing opportunity to open for Suicide Silence. This is one of my proudest moment in my life. Rock on!
