When was your first time on stage?
My first time on stage performing was when I was in the 3rd Grade. My school district at the time were holding auditions for the spring musical School House Rock. These were open to all the schools and my teacher told my mother It would be a great opportunity for me. I went to audition and was casted in School House Rock as a Conjunction Junction Girl and Planet Janet Girl. This was my first musical I was casted in and I remember being super excited to perform. I worked so hard on my part and loved the process of putting on the show. I was so devastated when I got sick before show and could not perform but I do appreciate being exposed to the process.
When did you know you wanted to be an actor?
I have always been exposed to the arts as a child. My mother was an actress and she met my father in the theatre so I have a family background in theatre. My parents put me in a dance since the age of 4. I also sung in the school choir from elementary school to high school. I never really started acting until I was in High School. After my mother passed away and I got to high school I wanted to try it. I wanted to feel closer to her. I fell in love with it after my first UIL Competition. I decided then and there I would go to college for it and pursue my career.
Who is your greatest mentor?
My greatest mentor would be my High School Theatre Director Trilica Wafer. She really pushed me to see the talent that I had and always motivated me to shoot for the stars. I probably wouldn’t be where I am today without her guidance and support. I worked with her from Elementary to High School. She witnessed my growth and my determination to be a better performer.
What role have you enjoyed the most in your career so far?
One role I truly enjoyed so far was when I played Jimmy “Thunder” Early in Dreamgirls. That role really took me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to grow as an actress. I had never played a pants role before! It was so fun and I would definitely do it again.
Do you have a dream role?
My dream role would be Dorothy in The Wiz. That has been one of my all time favorite musicals and I would love the opportunity to perform in it.
Who would you like to perform with on stage?
I would love to perform with Jennifer Hudson. I love her voice and she is such an inspiration for me. Ever since seeing her as Effie in “Dreamgirls" I have been a Huge Fan!
What performances have you seen that impressed you?
I went to see Anastasia when it was at Broadway Dallas back in undergrad. From the beautifully crafted set to the music, I was in love and that’s when I fell more in love with Musical Theatre.
What are your career goals?
Currently I am a middle school theatre teacher, however my career goals are to perform full time. I love all areas of acting from the stage to the screen and would love to explore all avenues that I am able to. I want to continue to build my name in the DFW and branch my way outside of Texas eventually.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
People are surprised to know I lost both of my parents at an early age. Im very open with my life and I hope it serves as motivation to anyone know that even though things are hard and life seems unfair God always has a plan. Stay faithful and humble and whats yours will be yours in his name. Thats the way I live.
